"A wonderful product - does its intended job very
well!" (Patient)
"My 11-year-old grandson slept through the night for
the first time with his catheter, because he was more
comfortable with the CathSling." (Grandmother)
"….it worked flawless, the nurse however was not convinced that it
would support the Huber needle, but it did just as you said it
would. Thanks, again." (Portacath patient)
FOR PATIENTS
What A Patient Needs to
Know About The CathSling
What is the CathSling?
The CathSling is a patented, non-adhesive, soft fabric
necklace with a pocket that is used to support the access
lines and/or lumens of central venous catheters (CVCs),
Portacaths, and PICCs. It was invented by a cancer patient who
experienced a catheter-related infection due to movement at
the implant site because of the inadequate support of tape and
pins. When supporting the Hickman-type lumens or Portacath
access, the pocket of the CathSling is positioned adjacent to
the sterile dressing over the implant site. Hook and loop
secures a strap around the neck and helps form the pocket to
enclose and support: the catheter tubing (lumens) of Hickman
catheters; or the Huber
needle during infusions for a Portacath; or the IV lines of a
PICC. Complete instructions are enclosed with the CathSling or
view the demo on our home page.
How Does the CathSling Help Reduce Infections?
Inadequate catheter support causes movement at the implant
site and compromises the sterile dressing over the site.
Serious health problems and higher healthcare costs result,
including catheter-related infections and dislodgement.
Adhesive-based support, like tape, can tear the patients’
skin, and frequently releases its hold. Movement of the
catheter lines compromises the sterile dressing and allows
pathogens to be introduced to the implant site. Attaching
catheter lines to the gown or clothing also contributes to
tugging and movement, compromising the sterile dressing and
creating similar opportunities for infection or dislodgement.
The CathSling prevents accidental and inadvertent tugging and
movement via the infusion lines and helps the sterile dressing
remain in place.
How Does it
work for Portacath Patients?
When the Huber safety needle’s access tubing is supported by
the CathSling, the needle is less likely to accidentally
dislodge. There is also less need for tape to stabilize the
access needle, reducing skin trauma.
Other Special Features of the CathSling.
The CathSling
is sold as a sterile, disposable product in a convenient
7-pack, a week's supply for the patient.
The CathSling is adjustable, one-size-fits-all
and has a break-away safety neck strap.
The CathSling is recommended for children age 10 and
older, and is not recommended for patients with cognitive
impairment or for patients who are disoriented.
